Stay in Portland Maine Hotels and Venture Down to Boston for a Duck Tour

Have you ever heard of a Duck Tour? If you initially envision a group of people watching ducks swim around in a pond, you are unaware of the Duck Tours that happen in Boston, Massachusetts. Starting in March, the Duck Boats are open for the season and people (locals and tourists alike) pile into these unique looking vehicles that have bus-like qualities but are open along the sides. These Duck Boats not only drive through the streets of Boston, but they can also move across the water. In other words, when you take a Duck Tour you get a full view of the city of Boston, both on land and sea.

To reserve a Duck Tour, it is recommended that you purchase tickets online and pick your departure destination (i.e. The Museum of Science or Prudential Center) on the date you want (remember it does not warm up in Boston until May). If you are looking for group reservations this can also be arranged directly through the Duck Tour staff. The Duck Tours are 80 minutes long and bring visitors to places like Government Center, the Boston Public Gardens, Bunker Hill, Museum of Science, Old State House, Make Way for Ducklings (based off the popular children’s book), Cheers, Newbury Street, Boston Public Library, and the Charles River. The tour guides provide ample historic information and facts; some that even surprise Boston locals.

You don’t have to stay in Boston to go on a Duck Tour, especially since this can be very expensive. Instead look to hotels in Portland Maine and extend your weekend to see more of the Northeast. Portland Maine hotels like Howard Johnson’s hotel in Portland Maine provide transportation (free of charge) to the nearby Amtrak Train Station and bus terminal so guests can make it to Boston (stress free) in about two hours. Once you arrive to South Station in Boston, simply hop on the mass transit system and arrive to your Duck Tour.
